Here is the little history of Facebook interspersed with funny facts and surprising information.
Facebook was born at Harvard on February 4, 2004. At first, only college students could register. A few other American and Canadian universities were then added.
It was in 2006 that the site was opened to everyone.
Its name comes (obviously) from the English word "photo album".
The name at the beginning ... Thefacebook.com.

The folks at Facebook aren't too happy because the film (and the book) mixes truth and fiction. We are afraid that the public will not know how to separate the true from the false.
Funny facts
4 months after its launch, an investor offered Mark Zuckerberg $ 10 million to buy the site. The young designer refused to become a millionaire. He did well, he is now a billionaire!
He received huge purchase offers. The highest is that of the CEO of Microsoft who offered him $ 15 billion! Answer: no !!!
The site has in 2010, 500 million members
Facebook has been translated into several languages only since 2008.
The French Quebec version was launched on April 6, 2009.
Facebook is now available in 70 languages, some of which are funny or invented. You can also “facebooker” in Latin!

Class actions an controversies
There is a lot of talk about the site because of the way it handles the personal information of its members.
For example, I have been asking pointed questions to the company's public relations officers for several months and we always avoid answers. Trying to communicate with Facebook is the equivalent of trying to talk to the US President or the Pope on their cellphones!
In Canada, two class actions are looming. Patrice St-Arnaud asks a pity for the changes made by Facebook in December 2009. It was a mess then. Private information became public and it was difficult for many people to properly set up their account.
There is also all this personal data shared with third parties. Application developers have access to user information and it is not always clear what exactly.
Facebook also lets some applications with questionable marketing practices spread across the network.
Yet we claim to be whiter than white. In a text by Marie-Ève Morasse in La Presse, we learn that Facebook refused $ 1 million in 2006 for the site to be in the colors of Sprite. Facebook hasn't been green for 24 hours!
The character
If he invented THE site that allows people to share their personal information, the creator is rather reserved. He talks little or nothing about himself, about his private life.

We also hear more and more criticism of his way of leading, of his leadership personality. Several suggest that he leave the queens of the management of the site to someone else.
It must be said that Mark Zuckerberg is only 26 years old and would be a rather adolescent “geek”, if we trust the gossip ...
It goes down
Facebook has skyrocketed since its launch, but recent controversies have plagued the site.
More than a third of young Americans are addicted to the site. In fact, 39% of young Americans admit having to plug in at night or before going to the bathroom in the morning!
More than one in 2 women aged 18 to 34 admit spending more time chatting on the social network than face to face! 34% consult the site as soon as they wake up.
21% get up at night to consult their profile
37% have already fallen asleep with the cell phone in hand
But, but, but ...
These days, Facebook has lost (for the first time) 175,000 users aged 18 to 44.
In May, the site had gained 7.8 million members while there would have been only 320,000 new followers in June!
