SEO and Internet traffic
Referencing and traffic are two things necessarily linked, not so sure
SEO, on the internet is the action of referencing a site, an url. What is the point? Position yourself and if possible in the first results of Google on one or more key expressions. SEO (yes it's a real job), often use to improve the position of a site, techniques such as Netlinking, backlinks, publication of articles on press release sites and many others again.
Traffic is the number of visits (new and / or known visitors) to a site. This is critical if you want to acquire new customers and increase the sales of your products or services. Obviously the more your site is visited the more likely you are to sell.
SEO necessarily induces traffic you say? Yes of course, a website that appears in Google's top 5 on a given search is more likely to be visited and therefore generate traffic, than a site that is drowned in the depths of the ranking.
And yet, you can perfectly increase the traffic of your website, without abusing netlinking, backlinks or other press releases ... SEO is not everything ...
It was while commenting on an article on Robin's blog (PubContact) that discussed over-optimization and possible penalties following Penguin's stint that I decided to post this small case study on the Training Internet site.
Choosing the right domain name
A simple trick that saves a lot of time, finding a "used" or should I say "expired" domain name instead. In the case of Internet Training, I used the StuckDomains site to find a domain that contained the term "Training".
How lucky I was to find a 7 year old domain that was expiring at the end of 2011 with a magnificent Page Rank of 3 (link analysis algorithm contributing to the web page ranking system used by Google). While the domain name is a bit long "Formation-creation-site-internet.com" but on the web who cares?
I paid attention to the choice of my host, it was essential for me that he hosts in France with good technical qualities.
Use an SEO Friendly CMS
In other words, use a CMS (Content Management System) easily indexable by Google and allowing content to be published quickly. Who better than WordPress? One of the many advantages of the latter is that unlike others it allows you to choose your permalinks when posting an article (mysitename.com/myarticle/).
WordPress also provides us with a large number of plugins / extensions to optimize SEO (optimization for search engines) but also to generate sitemaps, optimize site speed, etc ... For example, it does not It is not uncommon for some articles published on Internet training to be indexed by Google in less than 24 hours.
Fundamentals to be respected
Of course, when designing the site, be sure to optimize and write for the web, two points that are essential for any website. Registrations on Bing and on Google Webmaster Tools are compulsory, the same goes for registration on Google Places and some quality directories.
On the other hand, do not pounce on offers promising registration in more than 1000 directories, or even 1000 quality backlinks, and do not over-publish on every press release site you find on the web.
Practical tools
The RSS feed (used by news sites or blogs to present the latest news headlines) is integrated by default in WordPress, coupled with FeedBurner, it will allow your visitors to subscribe to your blog.
Offer a Newsletter, a Youtube channel, etc. are all simple and free means that you can put in place to increase your visibility.
The Content of your site
Content is King, content is king, a saying we tend to underestimate, yet how can we still overlook it? If a site offers you rich, regularly updated content, won't you come back? Won't you share it? And this, whatever its Page Rank or its ranking on Google.
Offer rich content, release information, take positions, in short, interest your readers. Open your blog to others, it is also an option, fresh content, new articles, meetings ...
Follow and comment
Find and follow the sites, blogs that deal with your theme or that come close to it, comment and share. Don't do it all one way, create interactivity, it is not uncommon to read an interesting article and read the comments and then navigate through the links.
For internet training, I regularly consult various sites dealing with web writing, wordpress but also e-commerce, etc. Forums are also places for discussion and learning, with the possibility of posting a signature at the bottom of the messages you post.
The Long Train
In SEO, we often talk about the long tail when we refer to the multitude of keywords and expressions of varying length (3 to 10 words) that generate visits. These are usually multiple keywords that each bring you low traffic but end-to-end this share of traffic becomes important. Social networks
Vast subject, we all know them for the most part, yet depending on your theme and the audience you are targeting, not all are created equal. FaceBook, Twitter, Google+, for the best known, will not bring you the same qualified visitors. However, social media is still a free and easy way to significantly increase your website traffic.
For information, of the 5,000 monthly visits received by Internet Training, 39% came from various social networks and more particularly from Twitter.
Automate tasks
You can't always be in front of your PC on the lookout for information, discussions, tweets or likes. There are tools to automate certain tasks.
If you are starting your site, it can be useful to quickly increase your Twitter Followers as well as get your first Fans on FaceBook, solutions like TweetAdders, Metwee and LikeUb should be able to help. Be careful, even if these solutions allow a faster start, only your content will make the difference.
Subsequently, tools like HootSuite, TweetDeck will allow you to organize yourself and to better manage your presence on the networks.
The Curation, the lethal weapon?
Practice of selecting, editorializing and sharing the most relevant content from the Web for a given query or topic. One word of advice on this subject, quickly open your account on scoop.it, for information, it is just after social networks, a large part of visitors to this site.

Created January 15, 2012, based on the WordPress CMS. Granted, this is not the most read blog in the world and there is still a lot to improve and do. However, for a recent site, the number of visitors seems to me to be quite correct and above all constantly increasing, readers subscribe to both the RSS feed and the Newsletter and come back to visit the site.
I do not pretend to have the truth, I try as much as possible to publish one article per week, for the rest, I test, I comment, in short I talk about my passion and I admit that it is a real pleasure ...
My conclusions: This site has mainly benefited from its domain (seniority and pagerank), from the collection of pearls via Pearltress, from Paper.li, from a few directories but the bulk of this progress is mainly linked to the interactivity between the networks social and curation made in scoop.it
Conclusion SEO and Traffic
If well referencing your site is important, you have to be careful and if possible do it correctly. Google (Panda, Penguin) further penalizes certain SEO abuses, so contacting an SEO professional is highly recommended. But you should know that this is not the only way to significantly increase your traffic.
Choosing the right domain, taking care of its content, using feeds, commenting on blogs (without spamming), doing curation, are all free ways to increase traffic.
Social networks are on the rise, by learning to use them well, you will be able to significantly increase your traffic and thus promote your site.
